Smile 'N' Play Daycare Curriculum Overview

At Smile 'N' Play Daycare, our EnrichED curriculum is designed to foster holistic development in children aged 0-12 years. We believe in providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can explore, learn, and grow at their own pace. Our curriculum is inspired by various educational philosophies, including Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and emergent curriculum principles. Here's an overview of our curriculum framework:

1. Infant Program (0-18 months):

  • Focus on sensory exploration and building secure attachments.

  • Gentle routines to promote sleep, feeding, and diapering.

  • Age-appropriate activities to support physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.

  • Responsive caregiving to meet individual needs and promote bonding.

2. Toddler Program (18 months - 3 years):

  • Encouragement of independence and self-help skills.

  • Exploration of language through stories, songs, and rhymes.

  • Introduction to basic concepts such as colors, shapes, and numbers through play-based activities.

  • Opportunities for sensory exploration, messy play, and outdoor experiences.

3. Preschool Program (3 - 5 years):

  • Emergent curriculum approach, where children's interests guide learning experiences.

  • Development of pre-literacy and pre-math skills through interactive experiences.

  • Focus on social-emotional skills, including conflict resolution and cooperation.

  • Introduction to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) concepts through hands-on exploration.

  • Preparation for kindergarten readiness, including following routines, listening skills, and basic academic concepts.

4. School-Age Program (5 - 12 years):

  • Before and After School Care with a balance of academic support and recreational activities.

  • School Break Programming offered during PD days, March/Spring Break, and Winter Holidays.

  • Enrichment activities including arts and crafts, sports, STEM projects, and outdoor play.

  • Homework assistance and support for independent learning.

  • Opportunities for leadership development, teamwork, and community engagement.

Enrichment Programs:

  • Specialized programs such as music, art, yoga, and foreign language instruction offered as optional enhancements to the core curriculum.

  • Integration of technology tools and resources to support learning and creativity.

Nutrition Education:

  • Curriculum-based lessons on healthy eating habits, food groups, and meal preparation.

  • Nutritious meals and snacks provided, with opportunities for children to participate in meal planning and preparation.
